The City of San Diego established the Archives Center to serve as a central source of information and materials regarding the history and development of San Diego. Among the primary functions of the Archives Center is the identification, preservation and storage of records with permanent reference value that capture the history of San Diego. These records not only provide a chronology of events, but create a window into the City’s and the entire region’s past: the culture, values, challenges and issues that helped to shape the City of San Diego we know today. In 2015 as part of The City Clerk Archives Access and Preservation Project, the Digital Archives was launched in an effort to increase public access to the historical records of the City.
